Arctic Air: The Bold Flight of S.A. Andrée

A new exhibition at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum has now officially opened! As part of the Balloon Museum Chronicles this 1897 Attempt to Reach the North Pole by Balloon depicts the dramatic journey from Danes Island to the North Pole.

The story of S.A. Andrée and his balloon, named the Ornen (eagle), explores the rich history and technology of the expedition. When the brave flight began on July 11, 1897, no one had yet successfully reached the North Pole, let alone by flight!
